Our classes are suitable for beginners, returners and intermediates.
We recognize that everyone will be at a different stage of their fitness journey and for some just plucking up the courage to come along will have been a challenge.
There is no pressure to do more than you are capable of. We will help you to make progress at a safe, sustainable and enjoyable pace.
There are adaptations and alternatives offered during the class and all participants are encouraged to work at their own pace and at their own level.
Before starting our classes you will be required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire – PAR-Q.
Any exercise class carries a risk of injury or may aggravate underlying medical conditions. You may be referred to your doctor for advice before being allowed to participate in the classes if you flag a condition that puts you in a higher risk category.
We don’t worry about how you look so no fancy sports gear required, we’re just glad you’re joining us!
You will need suitable footwear to exercise in – trainers or gym shoes.
Wear clothing that allows you to move freely.
Light clothing is preferable so that you don’t overheat.
Your smile and willingness to have a go – essential!
Make sure you have water to drink.
You may also wish to bring a small towel as it can get hot and sweaty.
If you have an exercise mat it is recommended that you bring your own to our strength and conditioning classes. We do clean our mats after each session but having your own mat reduces any risk of cross infection significantly more.
If you are accustomed to using particular equipment, such as your own set of dumbbells or a kettlebell, you are welcome to bring these along to the relevant classes. However, please make sure that you can lift and lower the weight under control. It is solely your responsibility to ensure that the equipment is in good condition and can be used safely.
You will still need to book a place in the class on TeamUp.
Please complete the registration documents and health questionnaire before booking.
Generally, we operate a use it or lose policy.
If you are going on holiday, are likely to be unwell for more than 2 weeks or there are other personal events that might affect your attendance, please contact us and we will consider carrying over your quota on a case by case basis.
Unless otherwise specified we operate for 48 weeks of the year to ensure that our staff have protected downtime. We will provide our members no less than 2 weeks-notice of our downtime weeks.
Due to unforeseen circumstances (such as unplanned staff absences), there may be occasions when we are only able to operate a skeleton timetable. If this affects members ability to book their class quota for the month* then we will carry the balance over accordingly. In this event the quota carried over must be used within 2 months. [NB* This is only likely to apply to those on Silver and Gold membership packages).
We operate a cancellation policy. If you do not turn up for class or fail to cancel at least 3 hrs beforehand you are unable to carry it over.
We have a waiting list for classes and if you fail to cancel in time, it prevents another member from taking up your slot.
Online classes are recorded for health and safety purposes. Recordings are not distributed, but may be reviewed in the event of a complaint, accident or incident.
Recordings are kept for 3 months for this purpose.
Please do not book an online class if you do not consent to the class being recorded.
Your consent will be sought prior to recording.
Presentation slides will be made available to Thrive members at the end of the week for reference.
The purpose of health coaching is to help you to build a healthier lifestyle that enables you to perform your activities of daily living to the best of your ability and to enjoy a sense of wellbeing.
It recognises that life isn’t always straightforward and there are many factors that affect the way you think, feel and behave that can derail a healthy lifestyle. Health coaching aims to get you back on track and help you gain the knowledge and skills to increase the likelihood that any improvement will be sustained. It is not a quick fix, though you may find some benefit emerges quite quickly.
Health coaching focuses on you. It starts with looking at where you are now, where you want to be and involves setting SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time frame). Working with your coach you will decide how you are going to move forward, what information and support you might need and will check in regularly to monitor how things are going.
Please note that this is an advisory service that uses social prescribing. We do not provide diagnostic services and we do not offer advice about nor do we engage in medical treatment or therapies.
Yes, but this will incur an extra charge for a the use of a consulting room. We use these online forums in order to keep the cost of health coaching as low as possible, thereby making it more accessible.
This is to give you time to take on board your action plan and consolidate this activity before progressing to the next stage.
Our aim is to make progress in sustainable incremental steps towards your overall goals. You need sufficient time to assess whether the changes you make work for you and if not what are the barriers preventing you from moving forward so that we can work on this.
Breaking an old habit and developing a new healthier habit can take from 8-16 weeks.
We will never promise rapid progress because we do not want you to end up yo-yoing, which impacts negatively on your physical and mental health. We only want to lose members because they are empowered to live healthier, fitter and more confident lives and not look back.
We aim to put on events such as walks and picnics that carry no cost. Where there may be a cost, e.g. we go for coffee after a walk, it is up to the participant whether they wish to spend any money.
Some events, such as visits to the cinema or meals out must be paid for by the participant.
If an event requires a block booking, this will need to be paid before a place is secured. The cost is the cost charged by the event provider. Thrive does not make any charge for facilitating such events on behalf of its members.
These events are simply to help people connect and feel part of their local community.
Any member can suggest an activity which Thrive will advertise and help to coordinate if desired, but these are informal gatherings and Thrive takes no responsibility for these events, which are viewed as a gathering of friends.
Subscribed members can get a 20% discount on courses and workshops.
If you are a “Pay What You Can” member, please contact us to discuss options.
Our Health and Wellbeing Associates are other service providers that work within the sphere of health and wellbeing and have common values to those held by Thrive.
They offer services that Thrive does not deliver, but which we recognize may also help to support your health, fitness and wellbeing journey.
Their services are not included in the Thrive package, but members of Thrive can purchase services at a discount with a code that we supply on application.
We are not responsible for the service that these organisations or practitioners supply. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to read the provider’s terms and conditions and ensure that they are happy to proceed.
Just in case there is anything we missed – just call and ask. We’re always happy to help….
